The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has strengthened its operational capacity with the addition of 16 vehicles and 45 motorbikes, significantly improving its ability to coordinate agricultural activities and deliver services to farming communities across Sierra Leone.
The fleet was procured under the Pandemic Fund programme, which is being implemented in collaboration with the FAO and supported by The World Bank.

The new vehicles and motorbikes will support District Agriculture Officers and veterinary teams in all districts, enabling more frequent field monitoring, improved livestock disease surveillance, farmer outreach, and stronger coordination of agricultural programmes at the district level.
Enhanced mobility is particularly important in Sierra Leone, where many farming communities are located in remote areas that are difficult to access. The additional fleet will allow Ministry teams to expand their field presence and respond more quickly to emerging agricultural and livestock health challenges.

The support also complements recent investments in strengthening veterinary services, including the establishment of the Central Veterinary Laboratory in Makeni, which has expanded the country’s capacity for animal disease detection and testing.
